His family is in a different league. His father, Lawrence Stroll, is a Canadian billionaire worth about $3.8 billion on Forbes’ 2026 billionaires list. Lawrence owns a controlling stake in the Aston Martin F1 team that Lance drives for, and he is executive chairman of the Aston Martin car company.
We keep the two fortunes apart in this profile. Lance’s $50 million is a solid sum for a midfield F1 driver. It is also a tiny fraction of the family money, which is why he is often called the richest driver on the grid by family, but not by personal wealth.

Lance Stroll’s F1 earnings
Aston Martin does not publish driver pay, so the figures below are reported numbers. One unusual source helps: because Lawrence Stroll is a director of the team, its UK accounts must disclose payments to Lance’s racing company.
| Season | Team | Reported pay | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2017–2018 | Williams | Not disclosed | Seat came with major family backing |
| 2019–2020 | Racing Point | Not disclosed | Team owned by his father’s consortium |
| 2023 | Aston Martin | About $5.6 million paid to Golden Eagle Racing | Aston Martin accounts (PlanetF1, October 2025) |
| 2024 | Aston Martin | About $12.3 million paid to Golden Eagle Racing | Aston Martin accounts (PlanetF1, October 2025) |
| 2025 | Aston Martin | About $13.5 million, 8th on the grid | Forbes, December 2025 |
| 2026 | Aston Martin | About $12 million base salary | Reported |
The payments to Golden Eagle Racing may also cover his trainers, management and advisers, so his take-home pay is likely a little lower. Even so, the jump from 2023 to 2024 shows his pay more than doubled in one year.
Early life
Lance Strulovitch Stroll was born on October 29, 1998, in Montreal. His mother, Claire-Anne Callens, is a Belgian fashion designer, so he holds both Canadian and Belgian citizenship. He races under the Canadian flag.
He grew up around fast cars. His father owned the Circuit Mont-Tremblant in Quebec from 2000 to 2022 and collected classic Ferraris. Lance started karting at 10 and won several regional and national titles in North America.
He speaks English, French, Italian and Dutch, a result of a childhood split between Canada and Europe. He has an older sister, Chloe.
Junior career: Ferrari academy and F3 title
In 2010, at age 11, Stroll joined the Ferrari Driver Academy. He moved into single-seaters with the Italian team Prema and won the Italian F4 championship in 2014.
In early 2015 he won New Zealand’s Toyota Racing Series. Later that year he finished fifth in the FIA European Formula 3 championship as a rookie.
His 2016 season was dominant. He won the European F3 title with Prema, taking a record 14 wins and winning by a record 187 points. He also finished fifth overall at the 24 Hours of Daytona that year with Ford Chip Ganassi Racing.
Family money played a big part. Motor Sport magazine reports that Lawrence Stroll invested about $60 million in Prema during Lance’s junior years. Lance also ran a private test program in an older Williams F1 car before his debut, something few young drivers can afford.
Williams: a record-breaking rookie (2017–2018)
Williams signed Stroll for 2017, when he was 18. Reports at the time claimed his father’s backing for the deal was worth as much as $80 million over two years, though the figure was never confirmed.
His rookie year had real highlights. He finished third at the 2017 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, becoming the youngest rookie to score an F1 podium. At Monza he started second after grid penalties, the youngest driver ever to start on the front row. He ended the year 12th with 40 points.
2018 was harder. Williams built a slow car, and Stroll finished 18th with just 6 points. Before that season he raced the 24 Hours of Daytona again, finishing 15th with Jackie Chan DCR JOTA, the sports car team backed by action star Jackie Chan. By then his father was already planning a bigger move.
Racing Point: a family-owned team (2019–2020)
In August 2018, Lawrence Stroll led a consortium that bought the assets of the bankrupt Force India team for a reported £90 million. The team became Racing Point, and Lance joined it for 2019.
His teammate for both seasons was Sergio Pérez. Stroll finished 15th in 2019, then had his best spell in 2020:
- Pole position at the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix in the wet, the first by a Canadian since Jacques Villeneuve in 1997
- Third place at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix
- Third place at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix
He finished 11th in the 2020 championship with 75 points, still the highest points total of his career.
Aston Martin (2021–present)
In January 2020, Lawrence Stroll’s consortium bought a stake in the British carmaker Aston Martin. The F1 team was renamed Aston Martin for 2021. Lance’s teammate for the first two seasons was four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel.
In 2023 the team signed Fernando Alonso. Stroll broke both wrists in a cycling accident before that season but still raced in the opener. He finished 10th with 74 points, his best championship position, while Alonso scored eight podiums.
Results have dipped since then. He was 13th in 2024 and 16th in 2025, when he also missed the Spanish Grand Prix with hand and wrist pain linked to his 2023 injuries.
The difficult 2026 season
2026 brought new rules, new Honda engines and design work led by Adrian Newey. It went badly. The Honda unit suffered heavy vibration and reliability problems early in the year, and both drivers retired from several races.
After the Mexico City Grand Prix in late October, Stroll was 22nd in the standings with no points, and Aston Martin was 10th of 11 teams in the constructors’ championship. Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes had already clinched the title.
Despite this, Aston Martin confirmed on September 29, 2026 that both Stroll and Alonso had extended their deals and would stay in 2027. Contract terms were not disclosed. Stroll said he believes the team has “the resources and the people to become a winning team.”
He also tried endurance racing again in 2026, joining Comtoyou Racing in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup.
Business ventures and sponsorship
Stroll has no large personal business empire. His main business is Golden Eagle Racing Ltd., the company that handles his driving services and receives his Aston Martin payments.
The same accounts show money flowing both ways. In 2024, Golden Eagle Racing paid Aston Martin about $500,000 in sponsorship income, while both race drivers were given a company car free of charge.
Unlike stars such as Lewis Hamilton, Stroll does not have a big portfolio of personal endorsements. His commercial value mostly runs through the team’s partners rather than his own brand deals.
Lawrence Stroll’s fortune
Lance’s father is one of the richest people in motorsport. Forbes put Lawrence Stroll’s net worth at about $3.8 billion on its 2026 billionaires list, ranking him around 1,137th in the world. Forbes’ real-time figure was reported at about $3.7 billion in September 2026.
He made his money in fashion, not racing:
- Pierre Cardin and Ralph Lauren: his father, Leo, imported the brands into Canada, and Lawrence later took Ralph Lauren into Europe.
- Tommy Hilfiger: with Hong Kong investor Silas Chou, he bought control of the brand when it was small. By 2002 it was valued at about $1.87 billion.
- Michael Kors: the pair paid about $85 million for most of the company. It went public in 2011, and Stroll sold his last stake in 2014 for more than $1 billion.
He then moved into motorsport. Key deals include:
- Force India (2018): bought out of administration for a reported £90 million
- Aston Martin car company (2020): £182 million for a 16.7% stake; a naming-rights deal in February 2026 lifted his holding to about 33%, Motor Sport reports
- Silverstone campus: about £200 million on a new factory, offices and wind tunnel, opened in stages through January 2025
- Car collection: more than 27 cars worth just over $140 million, including a 1996 McLaren F1
Motor Sport says a 2025 valuation of about $3.2 billion for the F1 team made his personal stake worth well over $1 billion. None of this counts toward Lance’s own $50 million.
Real estate
No property purchases in Lance Stroll’s own name have been reliably reported. Like many F1 drivers, he is believed to live mainly in Europe, but the details are private.
His father’s homes are better documented. Reported family properties include:
| Property | Year | Reported price |
|---|---|---|
| Fisher Island, Miami penthouse (Lawrence Stroll) | Bought 2014, sold 2020 | $13.5 million; sold for $20 million |
| Circuit Mont-Tremblant, Quebec (Lawrence Stroll) | Owned 2000–2022 | Not disclosed |
| Grade II*-listed mansion, London (Lawrence Stroll, agreed purchase) | 2026 | About £50 million (The Telegraph, May 2026; deal not completed at the time) |
Lawrence Stroll is also reported to have homes in Toronto, London, Geneva and on the Caribbean island of Mustique.
Personal life
Stroll is not married and keeps his private life low-key. He was previously in a relationship with Quebec model Marilou Bélanger; the couple later split.
His parents divorced, and his father has been married to Brazilian Raquel Diniz since 2020. His sister, Chloe, is married to Australian snowboarder Scotty James.
Away from F1, Stroll is a keen cyclist and skier. His 2023 cycling crash, which broke both wrists and a toe, showed how those hobbies can affect his racing.
