People With a Similar Net Worth

Esteban Ocon’s net worth is about $21 million, according to a widely reported estimate published by PlanetF1 in August 2026. That puts the French driver in the lower half of the grid’s fortunes, well behind world champions and long-serving stars, but it is a big sum for someone who started with almost nothing.

His 2026 season has been the hardest of his career. Haas told him in September that he would not be kept for 2027, then dropped him from its race seat for the rest of the season in early November after a dispute at the Mexico City Grand Prix. Most of his wealth comes from F1 salaries, reported at about $6 million a year in recent seasons, plus a modest list of personal sponsors.

Early life

Esteban Ocon was born on September 17, 1996, in Évreux, in the Normandy region of northern France. His father, Laurent, was a mechanic who ran his own garage in the town. His mother is Sabrina Khelfane. His father’s family has roots in Málaga, Spain, and his mother’s family has Algerian roots.

The family was working class, and karting is expensive. To keep his career going, his parents sold their house, including the garage. They then lived in a caravan, which also served as their base at race tracks across Europe.

Ocon has said he came close to giving up racing and taking a job at McDonald’s. He speaks French, English, Spanish and Italian.

Karting and junior racing

Ocon started karting in 2006 and quickly began to win. He took French titles in the Minime class in 2007, the Cadet class in 2008 and the KF3 class in 2010.

In 2011 he finished runner-up in the WSK Euro Series behind Max Verstappen, a rival he would meet again many times. At 14 he signed with Gravity Sports, a management company linked to the Lotus/Renault F1 team, which gave him support he could not have paid for himself.

His junior results were outstanding:

  • 2013: third in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 with ART Junior Team
  • 2014: FIA Formula 3 European champion with Prema, with nine wins, beating Verstappen in the standings
  • 2015: GP3 Series champion with ART Grand Prix, with 14 podiums in 18 races

He joined the Mercedes Junior Team in 2015. That link would shape the next stage of his career.

Early F1 years: Manor and Force India

Ocon was a Lotus test driver in 2014 and Renault’s reserve driver in 2016. In the middle of 2016, Mercedes placed him at Manor, where he replaced Rio Haryanto from the Belgian Grand Prix. Manor was the slowest team on the grid, and his best result was 12th in Brazil.

In 2017 he moved to Force India, alongside Sergio Pérez. He finished eighth in the championship with 87 points and set a record of 27 straight race finishes from the start of a career. The two teammates clashed on track several times, which became one of the stories of the season.

In 2018 he finished 12th with 49 points. When the team was rescued and renamed Racing Point, the new owner brought in Lance Stroll, and Ocon lost his seat.

A year on the sidelines

Ocon spent 2019 as Mercedes’ reserve driver. He did not start a single race. For a young driver, a year out of the cockpit can end a career, and it also meant far lower earnings than a full race seat.

Renault and Alpine: the Hungary win

Ocon returned in 2020 with a two-year deal at Renault, partnering Daniel Ricciardo. He took his first podium with second place at the Sakhir Grand Prix in Bahrain and finished 12th overall.

In 2021 Renault became Alpine, and two-time champion Fernando Alonso joined as his teammate. That August, Ocon won a chaotic Hungarian Grand Prix, finishing ahead of Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton. It was the first win for the Alpine name and the only win of his F1 career so far.

Before that win, Alpine had already rewarded him with a contract extension to the end of 2024. It was the longest and most secure deal of his career.

In 2022 Ocon finished eighth in the championship with 92 points, the best season of his career, and became the first teammate since 2015 to outscore Alonso over a full year.

The Gasly years and a difficult exit

From 2023 his teammate was fellow Frenchman Pierre Gasly, a childhood karting rival. Ocon took a third place at Monaco in 2023 and another podium in the wet São Paulo Grand Prix in 2024, where Gasly finished right behind him.

Relations inside the team were not always smooth. Alpine confirmed in mid-2024 that Ocon would leave at the end of the season, and he stepped aside one race early so he could test for his new team, Haas, after the season.

Haas, 2025–2026

Ocon joined Haas on a multi-year deal in 2025, alongside rookie Oliver Bearman. He finished 15th in the 2025 standings with 38 points, including a fifth place at the Chinese Grand Prix after two Ferrari drivers were disqualified.

The 2026 season, the first under F1’s new engine and chassis rules, was much harder. Going into the Mexico City Grand Prix he had just 7 points, 16th in the standings, from ninth at Monaco, eighth in Azerbaijan and tenth in Japan. Bearman had 23 points over the same period.

The key dates of his Haas exit:

  • September 2026: reports said Haas would not keep him for 2027. Ocon confirmed it on social media on September 30, saying it was “absolutely not the end” of his F1 career. Ferrari junior Rafael Câmara was named as his replacement.
  • October 31, 2026: Haas pulled him out of the Mexico City Grand Prix after Friday practice and put Toyota driver Ryo Hirakawa in the car. Ocon called it a “difference in viewpoints” and firmly denied reports that the dispute became physical.
  • November 3, 2026: Haas said he would not race for the team again in 2026. Câmara will make his debut at the São Paulo Grand Prix.

It was the second time in two years that a team stood him down before the season finale. As of early November 2026, Ocon had no confirmed seat for 2027. He has said he wants to stay in F1 and would accept a reserve role if needed. Reports in October said his camp had approached Cadillac, whose team principal, Marcin Budkowski, worked with him at Alpine. Cadillac has not announced its line-up.

Sponsors and brand deals

Ocon’s personal sponsor list is short compared with the sport’s biggest names. His reported partners include:

  • Venum, the combat sports brand
  • Globe Air, a private aviation company
  • Meros, Facom (tools) and Bianchet (helmets)

Ahead of the 2025 season he and his partner, Flavy Barla, appeared in a sponsored social media post with Tiffany & Co. None of these deals has a published value, and they are thought to add far less than his F1 salary.

Ocon does not have his own clothing line, team or major business, unlike Hamilton or Alonso.

Real estate

Ocon has lived in Geneva, Switzerland, a common base for F1 drivers. There are no reliable public records of what he paid for his home, or of other property purchases, so we have not included a property table.

Personal life

Since 2023 Ocon has been in a relationship with Flavy Barla, a model, medical student and former Miss Côte d’Azur. He previously dated Elena Berri from 2018 to early 2023.

He has often talked about his parents’ sacrifices and credits them for his career. He keeps his private life largely away from the spotlight.
