No official estate figure has been made public, so the $12 million number should be read as an estimate.

The organization he built is far larger than his personal fortune. Turning Point USA reported about $85 million in revenue on its tax filing for the year ending June 2024, and it has kept growing since his death under his widow, Erika Kirk, who now leads the group as CEO and chair.

Turning Point USA salary by year

Because Turning Point USA is a nonprofit, it must report the pay of its top officers on its annual IRS Form 990. Those filings, posted on ProPublica’s Nonprofit Explorer, show how Kirk’s pay rose with the organization.

The figures are reported pay, not take-home income. Kirk also gave money back: Fortune reported in September 2025 that he personally donated at least $350,000 to Turning Point USA in 2024.

Early life

Charles James Kirk was born on October 14, 1993, in Arlington Heights, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, and grew up in nearby Prospect Heights. His father, Robert, was an architect. His mother, Kathryn, worked as a trader at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and later as a mental health counselor.

He attended Wheeling High School. In 2012 he applied to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and was not admitted. He then spent one semester at Harper College, a community college, before leaving to work on politics full time. He later took online classes through The King’s College in New York but did not earn a degree.

Founding Turning Point USA

In May 2012, at age 18, Kirk gave a speech at Benedictine University’s youth government day. In the audience was Bill Montgomery, a retired marketing businessman. About a month later the two co-founded Turning Point USA, a nonprofit aimed at organizing conservative students on college campuses.

The early years were lean. Fortune reported that the group took in only about $52,000 in its first year. Early backers included businessman Foster Friess, who gave $10,000, and the Bruce Rauner Family Foundation, which gave $100,000 in 2014.

By 2015 revenue had passed $2 million. In 2018 the group opened a national headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona, and Kirk moved his life and work to the Phoenix area.

Growth into a national organization (2016–2020)

Turning Point grew quickly during the 2016 election cycle and the years that followed. Between 2016 and 2019 its revenue rose by more than 500%, reaching about $28.5 million. Kirk became a frequent guest on cable news and a well-known campus speaker.

In 2019 he launched Turning Point Action, a 501(c)(4) group that can do more direct political work than a charity. Later came Turning Point Faith, aimed at churches and pastors. He also built close ties to the Trump family and to Donald Trump‘s political operation.

His first books came out in this period: Time for a Turning Point (2016) and Campus Battlefield (2018). The MAGA Doctrine, published in March 2020, became a bestseller.

The Charlie Kirk Show and media career (2019–2025)

The Charlie Kirk Show began as a podcast in 2019. In October 2020 it moved onto radio through Salem Media Group, airing on its “The Answer” stations. Kirk hosted a daily program that ran on radio, podcast apps, YouTube and Rumble.

The show became one of the most popular political podcasts in the U.S. Turning Point USA said it was downloaded 500,000 to 750,000 times a day in 2024. Its YouTube channel has about 5.8 million subscribers and more than 1.3 billion views.

The terms of Kirk’s deal with Salem were never made public. Media income likely flowed partly to him and partly to Turning Point, which produced much of his content, so no outlet has published a reliable figure for his personal show earnings.

AmericaFest and the peak years

In December 2021 Turning Point launched AmericaFest, a multi-day conference in Phoenix. By 2023 it drew about 13,000 attendees. Speakers at the December 2024 event included Donald Trump, Ben Shapiro and Tucker Carlson.

Money followed. Turning Point USA’s revenue climbed from nearly $40 million in 2020 to about $85 million in the fiscal year ending June 2024, with more than 99% coming from donations. Its endowment grew to $64.3 million in 2024, up from $7.2 million in 2020, according to Fortune.

Books, speaking and other income

Kirk wrote or co-wrote six books. Several were published by Winning Team Publishing, the company co-founded by Donald Trump Jr. Advances and royalties were never disclosed.

  • Time for a Turning Point (2016, with Brent Hamachek)
  • Campus Battlefield (2018)
  • The MAGA Doctrine (2020)
  • The College Scam (2022)
  • Right Wing Revolution (2024)
  • Stop, in the Name of God (December 2025, published after his death)

After his death, his earlier books climbed Amazon’s bestseller lists, and his posthumous book on keeping the Sabbath sold out on Amazon around its release, according to the Washington Examiner and other outlets. Royalties from those sales would go to his estate or heirs under whatever publishing terms apply.

Kirk was also a paid speaker. Fortune reported that his speaking fees ran to $10,000 or more per appearance, though many of his campus events were organized by Turning Point itself.

Death, estate and Turning Point’s future

On September 10, 2025, Kirk was shot once in the neck while speaking at a Turning Point event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. He died the same day. A public memorial on September 21, 2025, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, drew close to 100,000 people.

A Utah man, Tyler Robinson, was arrested and charged with aggravated murder and other counts. On September 1, 2026, a judge ruled the case can go to trial; Robinson pleaded not guilty, and prosecutors are seeking the death penalty, according to the Deseret News. A pretrial conference was set for October 23, 2026.

No details of Kirk’s will or estate have been made public. His assets are understood to pass to his family, but the value of the estate has not been reported in court filings or by the family.

On September 18, 2025, Turning Point USA’s board named Erika Kirk as CEO and chair. Under her leadership the group has grown. The 19th reported in October 2026 that Turning Point took in about $115 million in 2025, about 30% more than the year before, on top of an $81 million endowment. It also reported that high school chapters rose by 180% and college chapters by 60% in the year after his death, with more than 1,500 college chapters as of September 2026.

Posthumous honors

  • Presidential Medal of Freedom: awarded by President Trump on October 14, 2025, which would have been Kirk’s 32nd birthday. Erika Kirk accepted it at the White House.
  • Bestseller lists: his books and podcast rose to the top of the charts in the weeks after his death.
  • Continued show: The Charlie Kirk Show continues with co-hosts from Turning Point.

Real estate

Kirk lived mainly in the Scottsdale, Arizona, area near Turning Point’s Phoenix headquarters. His homes drew attention in the press, and the main sales are on public record.

Property Year Reported price
Silverleaf estate, Scottsdale, Arizona (bought) June 2023 $4.75 million
Same Scottsdale estate (listed) 2024 $6.5 million asking price
Same Scottsdale estate (sold) 2025 About $5.25 million
Condo, Longboat Key, Florida Not confirmed $855,000

The Scottsdale house in the gated Silverleaf community has about 6,800 square feet, with a pool and desert views. Kirk and Erika sold it in early 2025, months before his death, for a gain of roughly $500,000 on the purchase price. Reports at the time of his death said the family also had another Arizona residence, but its price has not been reliably reported.

Personal life

Kirk married Erika Frantzve, a former Miss Arizona USA (2012), on May 8, 2021, in Scottsdale. Erika has her own ventures, including the clothing brand Proclaim Streetwear and the podcast Midweek Rise Up.

The couple had two children: a daughter born in 2022 and a son born in 2024. Kirk spoke often about his Christian faith, and in his later years he made faith a growing part of Turning Point’s work.

Philanthropy

Most of Kirk’s public giving went to the organization he founded. Fortune reported that he gave at least $350,000 of his own money to Turning Point USA in 2024. Turning Point itself is a 501(c)(3) charity, so much of the money he raised over 13 years, nearly half a billion dollars by Fortune’s count, went into the nonprofit rather than his own pocket.
