What is easier to measure is how much he has earned. Shelton had won about $15 million in career prize money through the 2026 Cincinnati Open, according to ATP figures, and then collected another $2.8 million for reaching the 2026 US Open final. That puts his gross career prize money at roughly $18 million, before taxes, coaching costs and travel.
The 24-year-old left-hander from Atlanta is now the No. 4 player in the world, reached in September 2026. He has won seven ATP singles titles, four of them in 2026, and qualified for the ATP Finals in Turin for the second straight year. A new shoe and apparel deal, reported to be worth more than $15 million, could soon change his finances dramatically.

| Source | Details | Estimate |
|---|---|---|

| Apparel and footwear | On, signed March 2023; contract reported to end in late 2026 | Not disclosed; reported at about $1.5 million to $2 million a year |

Tennis players pay their own coaches, physios and travel, so gross prize money overstates what they keep. That is a big reason his net worth estimates are much lower than his earnings.
Prize money and key paydays
Shelton’s prize money has climbed with his ranking. In 2026 he had earned $2,449,673 by August 3, ranking 10th on the ATP money list, before winning a Masters 1000 title in Montreal and reaching the US Open final.
| Result | Year | Prize money |
|---|---|---|
| US Open semifinal | 2023 | About $775,000 |

| US Open runner-up | 2026 | $2.8 million |
| Career total through 2026 Cincinnati Open | 2022–2026 | About $15 million |
His 2026 prize money is on pace to be the best of his career, likely above $6 million once the US Open payday is included. The ATP Finals in November offer another large bonus, since every match win there pays several hundred thousand dollars.

Early life
Benjamin Todd Shelton was born on October 9, 2002, in Atlanta, Georgia, and grew up in Gainesville, Florida. Tennis is the family business. His father, Bryan Shelton, was a top-60 ATP player in the 1990s and later a championship-winning college coach. His mother, Lisa Witsken Shelton, was a highly ranked junior, and his uncle, Todd Witsken, also played professionally.
Surprisingly, Ben did not focus on tennis until he was about 12. He played quarterback and other sports first, which many coaches credit for his explosive serve. His sister, Emma, went on to play tennis at the University of Florida.
He graduated from Buchholz High School in Gainesville and enrolled at the University of Florida as a finance major. He has said his dream job outside tennis would be working on Wall Street.
College champion at Florida (2020–2022)
Shelton played for the Florida Gators, coached by his father. In 2021 he clinched Florida’s first NCAA team championship by winning the deciding match.
A year later he won the 2022 NCAA singles title and was named SEC and National Player of the Year. That summer, as a wildcard at the Cincinnati Masters, he beat world No. 5 Casper Ruud. On August 23, 2022, he announced he was turning professional.
Breakthrough (2023–2024)
Shelton rose quickly. In January 2023, on his first trip outside the U.S., he reached the Australian Open quarterfinals. That September he went on a run to the US Open semifinals, where he lost to Novak Djokovic, and earned about $775,000.
A month later he won his first ATP title at the Japan Open in Tokyo and finished 2023 ranked No. 17. In April 2024 he won the Houston clay-court title and became the American No. 1, the youngest since Andy Roddick in 2004. He also starred for Team World at the 2024 Laver Cup, scoring six of its 11 points.
Top-10 player (2025)
Shelton reached his first Australian Open semifinal in January 2025, losing to Jannik Sinner. He broke into the top 10 in June 2025 and reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals.
In August 2025 he won his first Masters 1000 title at the Canadian Open in Toronto, beating Karen Khachanov in three sets. A shoulder injury cut short his US Open, but he qualified for his first ATP Finals, reached a then-career-high ranking of No. 5 in November and finished the year ranked No. 9.
Best season yet (2026)
Shelton’s 2026 season has been his most successful by far:
- January: reached the Australian Open quarterfinals, where he lost to Sinner
- February: won the Dallas Open, saving three championship points against Taylor Fritz
- April: won the BMW Open in Munich on clay; he also won his first doubles title in Houston
- June: won his first grass title in Stuttgart, again beating Fritz in the final
- August: defended his Canadian Open crown in Montreal without dropping a set, the first repeat champion there since Rafael Nadal in 2019
- September: beat Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set quarterfinal and Frances Tiafoe in the semifinals to reach his first Grand Slam final at the US Open
He lost the final to Alexander Zverev 6–3, 7–6, 5–7, 6–2 on September 13, 2026, but the run lifted him to a career-high No. 4. With the four titles he became the first American man since 2010 to win titles on hard, clay and grass in the same year.
There were setbacks too. He lost in the first round at Wimbledon despite holding a match point, and fell in the third round in Shanghai on October 11. A week later, other results secured his place at the ATP Finals in Turin for the second straight year.
Endorsements and sponsorships
Endorsements are Shelton’s second big source of income, and they are about to become much bigger.
- On: the Swiss shoe and apparel brand backed by Roger Federer signed him in March 2023, when he was ranked 39th. He was On’s first male tennis player on a full head-to-toe deal. Terms have not been disclosed; reports put it at about $1.5 million to $2 million a year, and the contract is reported to expire at the end of 2026.
- Possible New Balance deal: in September 2026, after the US Open, CBS Sports writer Brad Crawford reported that “$15M+” was coming Shelton’s way from New Balance. Neither side has confirmed it, it is unclear whether the figure is annual or total, and On reportedly has the right to match.
- Yonex: he plays with a Yonex EZONE racket.
- Rolex: he became a Rolex ambassador in January 2024.
- Other partners: Thorne (nutrition), Bose, and campaigns for Loewe and Ralph Lauren.
He is represented by TEAM8, the agency co-founded by Roger Federer. Shelton has also appeared on Netflix’s Break Point and launched his own YouTube series, The Long Game, in December 2025.
He does not appear on Forbes’ 2026 list of the 10 highest-paid tennis players, where the cutoff was $17.4 million in earnings over 12 months.
Real estate
Shelton lists his home as Orlando, Florida, a popular base for tennis players because Florida has no state income tax. There are no public reports of the price of his home or of any other property purchases, so we cannot list reliable figures.
Personal life
Shelton is coached by his father, Bryan. His relationship with U.S. women’s national team forward Trinity Rodman, the daughter of NBA Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman, became public in March 2025. In a 2026 interview with the ATP, he called her “vital” to his career.
He has said his tennis idol is Roger Federer. Off the court he enjoys pickup basketball and track and field.
Philanthropy
Shelton supports Aces in Motion, a Gainesville, Florida, charity that uses tennis and tutoring to help children from low-income families. He has not publicly disclosed the size of his donations.
