Early life

Ariana Madix was born on June 24, 1985, in Melbourne, Florida. She was raised by her mother, Tanya, and her father, James, who has since died. She has a younger brother, Jeremy.

As a child she was a competitive horse rider from age six and a two-time national dance champion. She graduated from Eau Gallie High School in 2003.

She then went to Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida, and graduated in 2007 with a dual degree in theatre and broadcast communications. During college she worked at Walt Disney World, playing characters such as Ariel and Cinderella.

Early career: New York and small roles

After college Madix moved to New York City. She worked as a bartender and hostess at the restaurant Butter for about five years while trying to break into acting.

She landed small parts in films such as Working It Out (2010) and Attack of the 50 Foot Cheerleader (2012), and she appeared in several CollegeHumor comedy videos. She later moved to Los Angeles and took a job bartending at SUR, Lisa Vanderpump’s West Hollywood restaurant.

Vanderpump Rules (2013–2024)

Madix joined Bravo’s Vanderpump Rules in its early seasons and became a main cast member. She appeared in 11 seasons and 208 episodes, making the show her main source of income for about a decade.

In 2014 she began dating co-star Tom Sandoval. Their relationship became one of the show’s central storylines, and the pair released a cocktail book, Fancy AF Cocktails, in December 2019.

In March 2023 the couple split after news broke that Sandoval had been having an affair with co-star Raquel Leviss. The scandal, nicknamed “Scandoval,” made Vanderpump Rules one of the most-talked-about shows in the U.S. and turned Madix into the most in-demand person in its cast.

Season 11 aired in 2024 and was the last for the original cast. Bravo later rebooted the show with a new group of servers.

The Scandoval boom (2023)

The public sympathy Madix received after the breakup turned into real money. In 2023 she:

  • signed brand deals with Lay’s, Bic, Uber One, SoFi, Bloomingdale’s, Duracell, T-Mobile and others
  • launched products including a lipstick with Lip Lab and socks with Hippy Feet
  • sold about $200,000 of merchandise tied to her sandwich shop brand, according to reports
  • starred in the Lifetime film Buying Back My Daughter
  • published her own book, Single AF Cocktails, which debuted at No. 10 on a New York Times bestseller list

She also joined Dancing with the Stars season 32 with partner Pasha Pashkov and finished in third place. Us Weekly named her its No. 1 reality star of 2023, and Variety put her on its list of the most powerful women in reality TV.

Madix has publicly pushed back on claims that the scandal made her a millionaire overnight, which is one reason estimates of her wealth vary so much.

Broadway: Chicago and Just in Time

Madix made her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago on January 29, 2024. Her run was extended from March 24 to April 7 because of strong demand, and she returned for a second run from August 1 to September 1, 2024.

In August 2026, Playbill announced that she would return to Broadway as singer Connie Francis in Just in Time, the Bobby Darin musical starring Jeremy Jordan, at Circle in the Square Theatre. She began performances on September 12, 2026, taking over the role from Olivia Holt.

Love Island USA and TV hosting (2024–2026)

In 2024 Madix replaced Sarah Hyland as host of Peacock’s Love Island USA. She had already appeared as a guest on season 5 and guest-hosted Love Island Games in 2023.

  • Season 6 (2024): her first season as host
  • Season 7 (2025): became a viral hit and one of the biggest reality shows of the summer
  • Season 8 (2026): filmed in Fiji; a couple won the $100,000 prize after six weeks
  • Love Island Games season 2 (2025): host

On July 8, 2026, she was nominated for the Emmy for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program. The award went to Alan Cumming for The Traitors at the Creative Arts Emmys on September 5, 2026. Her fellow nominees were RuPaul, Kristen Kish and Jeff Probst.

She has also landed other TV work, including guest roles on Will Trent and NBC’s St. Denis Medical, co-hosting E!’s Emmy after-party in 2024 and co-hosting a preshow for The Voice season 28 finale.

Something About Her and brand deals

In 2022 Madix and her friend and co-star Katie Maloney announced plans for Something About Her, a sandwich shop and wine bar in West Hollywood. After long delays, it held its grand opening on May 22, 2024, when some customers waited up to three hours.

The shop was still operating in 2026. A breach-of-contract lawsuit filed by a former chef was dismissed before trial in October 2025.

Madix’s other product deals include:

  • a lip set with Frankie Rose Cosmetics (2017)
  • a lipstick collaboration with Lip Lab (2023)
  • a Lay’s “Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup” chips flavor (2023)
  • a shoe collection with DSW (2024)
  • sponsored posts for brands such as Nutrafol, SoFi and Uber One

Valley Village, Los Angeles home (bought with Tom Sandoval) 2019 Just over $2 million
Outpost Estates, Hollywood Hills home 2024 About $1.6 million
Valley Village home (sold) 2026 About $3.1 million

Madix and Sandoval bought a five-bedroom farmhouse-style home in Valley Village in 2019. After their split, both kept living there for months. In January 2024 Madix filed a lawsuit asking a court to force a sale, and the two later settled.

The house finally sold in May 2026 for about $3.1 million, according to TMZ. That was roughly $1 million more than the purchase price, before costs and the mortgage payoff, split between the two owners.

In March 2024 she bought her own home in the Outpost Estates area of the Hollywood Hills for about $1.6 million, according to records cited by the New York Post. The three-bedroom house has views of the Hollywood Sign.

Personal life

Madix dated Tom Sandoval from 2014 to 2023. Since 2023 she has been in a relationship with Daniel Wai, a New York-based fitness coach she met at a friend’s wedding in Mexico.

She has spoken openly about her health. She had a skin cancer tumor removed in 2018, and in 2022 she shared that she had struggled with an eating disorder when she joined Vanderpump Rules.

Philanthropy

Madix is an ambassador for The Skin Cancer Foundation. She uses her platform to encourage regular skin checks and early detection, based on her own diagnosis in 2018.
